Pourville-sur-mer and the Dieppe region around Villa Quartz

Sports, seaside recreation, walks

When you like to move, the Alabaster Coast and its hinterland abound with a multitude of sports and relaxation activities around Pourville and Dieppe. Everyone can find what they are looking for! The sea and its beaches favor all seaside and nautical activities: swimming, surfing, kite, paddle, sailing, diving, fishing, etc. The richness and diversity of the landscapes encourage walks and hikes, on the beaches, along the cliffs and in the rural hinterland. Thanks to the presence of Dieppe, an important urban center, all other sports activities are also well represented, thanks to numerous facilities: golf, cycling, tennis, ULM, tree climbing, horse riding, gym and Fitness, etc.

Seaside and nautical activities

With its beaches, rivers, ponds, our region is a paradise for those who love activities around the sea and water: swimming, Longe-Côte, Paddle, surfing and Kite surfing, sailing , rowing, sea trips, sea and river fishing ... Will you believe it? You can bathe in sea water in any season, thanks to the bathing center of the "Bains de Dieppe", which has unique equipment in France: a large outdoor Olympic swimming pool of 50m in sea water heated to 27 ° summer as winter! Since Villa Quartz is a partner of the Center des Bains, we were able to negotiate tickets at reduced rates for our guests ...

Sea baths & relaxation

Pourville, Dieppe, St Aubin-sur-Mer
200 m from Villa Quartz, Pourville beach offers invigorating sea water between 18 and 21 ° during the summer. During hot periods, it can sometimes even reach 22-23 ° at the end of the day when it goes up on the hot pebbles. You may prefer the baths at low tide, on the sand, or at high tide on the pebbles. It's a little less comfortable for the feet, but you are immediately in the water, it's better for swimming, and you also gain a few degrees in the sea, which has warmed up as it climbs up on the hot pebbles ... . For swimmers: at rising tide, the current carries towards Dieppe, and at falling tide, it pulls towards Cap d'Ailly in the south. The higher the tidal coefficient, the stronger the current. During the summer, pay attention to the color of the flag: green (no danger), orange (dangerous baths), red (prohibited baths). For naturist enthusiasts: you can sunbathe in the simplest device at the foot of the cliffs between Pourville and Varengeville, and also between the beach of Varengeville and Vastérival. Be careful, however, of landslides.

Other beaches are also pleasant around Dieppe: that of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer for example. The particularly large expanse of sand is suitable for walking or kite surfing.

The Dieppe Bath Center

Dieppe, beach
So this is the "top"! You benefit from an outdoor swimming pool of 50 m in sea water heated to 27-28 ° and open all year round.Jaccuzi, spa, sauna, Hammam, treatments and massages, fitness room and classes… Slides, whirlpools, jet baths… Everything to please adults and children alike!

We are official partners with the Bains de Dieppe and have negotiated reduced-price tickets for you on sale at the reception of Villa Quartz: tickets for access to the swimming pool at € 4 instead of € 6, prices preferential (-10%) for treatments and massages, and the "Freedom Pass", which gives you access to the entire center, at € 12 instead of € 14.

Surf, Kite, Paddle

Pourville, Dieppe, St Aubin-sur-Mer
Pourville beach is a renowned surf spot for fans. It is the closest spot to Paris. Admittedly, we are not in Ossegor and the conditions there are not always optimal, but thanks to Cap d'Ailly, the favorable swell conditions are quite recurrent with the south-west flows! In recent years, a Club and a dynamic surf school has been established on the beach: Surf In Pourville. Lessons and numerous supervised outings are offered all year round, all in a very nice atmosphere! (Route). Thanks to the wind and the often strong sea breeze, Pourville has also established itself in recent years for the practice of kite surfing! On weekends, it is not uncommon to see between 30 and 50 kite surfers in the bay. If you are a fan, remember to take your equipment!

Another popular beach for kite-surfers and windsurfers: Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, 15 km from Pourville.

Also in Dieppe, you can benefit from loans of paddles and boards on the beach, from a service point offered by the City.

Sailing, rowing

Pourville, Dieppe
In the Dieppe region, you can also go sailing at sea (Sails and cliffs) and in the marina (Dieppe Sailing Circle), or learn to sail on the Varenne ponds (Varenne outdoors). You can also go rowing (Dieppois nautical club).

Sea trips

Dieppe, Fécamp
There is no shortage of possibilities for sea trips on the coast: along the cliffs to Cap d'ailly from the port of Dieppe by motor boat (Sea walk) or aboard a sailboat (Sails and cliffs).

Not to be missed: a superb walk to do also to discover the cliffs of Etretat from the sea by boat from Fécamp (the sea for all).

Scuba diving

Dieppe
From the port of Dieppe, dives at sea with the Dieppe Diving Club boat, covered, aluminum hull that can take 24 divers at 25 knots to get to the dive sites (wrecks).

For any information, contact the Dieppois Underwater Sports Club.

Fishing

Beaches, dikes, ponds, rivers, etc.
On the Coast, you can indulge in the many joys of fishing, and of all kinds: fishing on foot at low tide on the rocks and sand (shrimps, bouquets, periwinkles), casting on the beaches, from dikes or pebbles, the fishing in ponds and rivers... For sea casting, the 2 "spots" are Pourville beach, at the foot of the cliffs, and Dieppe jetty. To fish offshore, you can contact "Norman navigation", which offers sea trips.

Coastal walks and hikes

The GR 21, customs path which runs along all the cliffs of the Alabaster Coast, passes at the foot of Villa Quartz! It was voted the most beautiful Grande Randonnée trail in France in 2020! Walkers will have a blast. Our region offers many walks to do on the coast or in the valleys of the coastal hinterland. Impossible for us to indicate them all to you, but we will tell you here about the closest ones and those that we like to do regularly. CAUTION: When walking on sand or rocks at tide, stay well away (at least 100 m) from cliffs which crumble regularly!

The loops of Cap d'Ailly

Pourville-Cap d'Ailly
Our "favorite" is the "beach & cliff walk" between Pourville and the church of Varengeville, starting from Villa Quartz! That's wonderful. Several options are available to you depending on the weather and the tides. If it's low tide: start from Pourville beach (on the left looking at the sea) walking on the sand and the rocks (bring suitable shoes), as far as possible from the cliffs because of the landslides. You can then walk for 45mn / 1 hour to the stairs to Varengeville beach, or extend even further (1h30 / 2h) to the small narrow valley of the church of Varengeville. Then, you can go up (by the stairs of the beach of Varengeville or the valley of the Church) and return by the GR21 which runs along the top of the cliff for the return.

If the sea is high when you want to go for the ride, you have to do the opposite: start by the cliff path and return by the beach. When leaving the path to the villa, turn left. Go to the end of rue Juliette which will become a dirt road. When you come to Maison de Mordal (dead end), go up through the field on the left. At the top, cross a "chic" housing estate. At the exit of the subdivision, take a small path on your right at the level of a turnstile which will lead you to the beach of Varengeville through a wood. You can view

You can download here our map created especially for our hikers.

The walk to Dieppe

By the beach at low tide ...
At low tide, you can also go to Dieppe (or come back) on foot via the sand and rocks. It takes about 40m. It's nice, but less easily passable than on the other side, because there are more rocks. You will arrive west of Dieppe beach and can then go to the jetty by the boulevard or the sand depending on the tide.

The GR21 around Etretat

... and all over the Coast!
For those who like to walk in the fresh air and in the middle of fabulous landscapes, there is also a magnificent hike not to be missed on the cliffs of Etretat. It takes 1h15 to get to Etretat by car. You must then park in the beach parking lot and climb up the cliff where the coastal path begins towards Cap d'Antifer. Sumptuous!

More generally: the GR21 runs along the entire Côte d'Albâtre. We can therefore choose to take it anywhere on the coast, and do it little by little, end to end. The landscapes are more beautiful to the west, towards Etretat, than to the north-east of Dieppe (towards Le Tréport). In 2020, the GR 21 was voted the most beautiful Grande Randonnée trail in France! To know more, click here

The bike

Dieppe, Fécamp
Our cyclists are sometimes surprised by the relief of the Côte d'Albâtre! From Villa Quartz, two symmetrically opposed choices are available to cyclists: follow the coast towards Dieppe or Veules-Les-Roses. In this case, the course is very sporty, because it is necessary to pass several valleys, with strong drops. Or, for the cooler cyclists: go up the valley of the Scie. In this sense, the ribs are softer. The region is marked out by several cycle paths, the main one being the green way. You can have details of the nearest routes on the Véloroutes de France website (Consult the coastline veloroute map).During the summer season, bikes can be rented at Miniature Golf from Pourville beach, and in Dieppe, opposite the Tourist Office.
